The Family Resource Specialist supports families and caregivers of children ages birth to 12 years in identifying and accessing parent education, quality child care, and other programs. The specialist provides 3 key services:
Child Care Referral Services
By phone, virtually or in person, provide families with referrals to child care using the LOCATE software and database including monitoring and responding to online chat.
Conduct family education regarding choosing child care and programs related to child care such as Maryland EXCELS and Child Care Scholarship.
Contact families to determine outcomes of their child care searches (follow ups).
Collaborate, including call transfers and warm handoffs as needed, with the dedicated Special Needs Enhanced Service for families with children with Special Needs Documents all work and services utilizing the MCCRN Data System as directed by MFN.
Connect child care providers with LOCATE database personnel when needed and submit updates to the LOCATE database such as new phone numbers, email addresses etc.
Complete surveys of providers to inform reporting or update the LOCATE database.
Parent Education
Research & identify available family education opportunities in the CCRC network, the region and/or online.
Provide information and referrals regarding family education and programs on topics such as parenting skills, family supports, protective factors, child development and other educational opportunities.
Assist families with enrolling in education programs.
Assist in developing materials.
Attend family focused events to distribute materials and publicize the family education service
Navigation Services
Assist families with applications, referrals and appointments for services such as Child Care Scholarship, WIC, Head Start, Early Head Start and MCHP.
Connect families with community-based services using the referral system in Unite Us or by phone using the records in the MFN Community Resource Database
Work with families by phone, virtually or in-person.
Research and identify local, state and national resources which can assist families.
Communicate new resources to the LOCATE database staff for update in the Community Resource Database
Establish relationships with staff in local agencies and organizations in order to do a warm handoff for families.
